Authentic orchard on Texel island
Noord-Holland
EN (NL hieronder) ~Welcome to Texel, the place of our magical garden with an apple, pear and plum orchard of 6 hectares, where we are creating a food forest and a herb and vegetable garden based on permaculture. We are Valerie and Joram, the happy and proud residents of the Waelde Garden. In addition, our horses, donkeys, chickens and peacocks also live on the grounds. We are setting up a farm campsite with tipi tents, where we also make room for nature-connecting ceremonies. Of course, we cannot maintain all this alone. We have a garden team with Albert and Maaike. In addition, we have a hotel and restaurant in Oost. A busy life full of special adventures.
We look forward to making this place even more beautiful together with you and to fully supply our restaurant and hotel with our own products. In addition, we have a farm shop for the guests and residents of our island and we organize small harvest festivals. Connecting people with themselves and nature, nature-inclusive entrepreneurship, creating more awareness and eating more from our own (is)land; that's what our alarm goes off for in the morning.
You will stay in our rural house, together with a maximum of 3 other wwoofers. You will share the sleeping area, bathroom and kitchen. We will make sure that there are groceries available to make breakfast, lunch and dinner (vegetarian). The meals are not served vegan.
We are looking for honest bon vivants with a green heart, friendly towards animals, who would like to learn more about maintaining and running a historic orchard, vegetable garden, campsite and farm shop. We would like to take you through all the ins & outs. We like to join in for a chat, but we also need our bit of privacy. That is why we have created a cozy place for several wwoofers so that you can get to know the island together with them and our team. We prefer wwoofers who can stay for at least two weeks so that there is enough time to get to know the place and the different aspects that the orchard has to offer. But also especially for go-getters who want to build something beautiful. It is important that you are fit, have a positive mindset and love the outdoors.
Jobs:
- 5 days a week, 30 hours

NL:

I absolutely loved the farm! I learned so many things and I’m taking with me beautiful memories.
It was definitely a great decision to take part in this experience.
The people in charge of the farm were always kind and caring, making sure everyone felt comfortable and happy.
I truly recommend it — I was amazed by how beautiful the island and its countryside are!

De Waelde Tuin is a very welcoming, warm, and lovable place. I really enjoyed my stay at the orchard. I felt very welcomed at the farm. Due to the summer temperatures, we started early. Waking up with the sunrise, the sounds of the peacocks and chickens felt really nice. Helping with picking plums, apples, and pears was a very nice and calming experience. During our activities, I really enjoyed the chats with other WOOFers from all over the world. This was my first WWOOFer-experience and I'm glad I could visit this beautiful orchard. Thanks to everyone here on the orchard for making my stay so pleasant!

I'm grateful for the two months I spent in this paradise on Earth. Every morning, work began with positive energy, and the sky reflected an intense blue that brought a smile to my face. I loved picking apples, pears, and plums. The whole team was warm and welcoming. Each day was a new adventure. I enjoyed sharing, discovering, and growing. I wholeheartedly recommend this magical experience! ;)

I spent two weeks there in summer 2024. The setting, the island certain aspects of my stay were pleasant. However, several issues troubled me and made me question whether the farm aligns with the values of WWOOFing. The farm owners, who seemed to run a business rather than a traditional farm, had no interaction with the WWOOFers. Instead, three farm employees handled the reception, which made me feel more like cheap labor for a business than a welcomed guest on a farm. We were provided with decent accommodation ; but the house felt lacking in privacy, with farm employees frequently entering to use the bathroom, drop off coffee cups (for us to clean), or discuss work matters during our breaks. It seemed we had no personal space and that everything was one-sided. The house was the only space we could access. I had little cultural exchange with the people from the farm, only with other WWOOFers. Basic food was provided, but snacks were denied. Sometimes, when biscuits were provided, employees also ate them. I had been assured of having access to treats for health reasons, but this wasn’t fulfilled. The work was repetitive and not clearly explained. At one point, the farm increased our working hours to collect apples, which seemed unfair. I felt exploited, and the owners didn’t even greet us when we left. It was not the educational WWOOFing experience I expected. It felt more like working for a business. I would advise future WWOOFers to be prepared for a business-driven environm
