Family home with small forest garden, herbs, fruits and vegetables
Groningen
I live in de countryside outside a small village with my my son (teenager) and 2 cats en 2 pigs
My garden contains a small forest with almost 30 different native trees, 3 ponds and is around 40 years old.
A small part in the garden is for the vegetables and herbs.
The garden is situated in the middle of a big piece of agriculture land (non -organic).
My garden has deferred maintenance and in 2023 I start to keep track of it according to permaculture.
Vegetables are used for the daily meals or stored for the winter.
Herbs will be harvested for medicinal use or tea.
As I only heat the house with wood, so some of the trees needs to be taken down and saw to pieces to dry.
Tasks contains mowing, work in the greenhouse and vegetable garden, picking berries en herbs, drying fruits and herbs, replanting trees, sawing and splitting wood, for 2025 I have planend to build an outdoor shower near the cabin.
Work in de vegetable, herb and tiny forest garden
Remove stubborn weeds
Drying fruits and herbs and store them
By arrival we will make a plan for your stay. The hours depending on the jobs to be done, my work schedule, the weather and your abilities. So we both know what to expect from each other.
Beside my dayjob as a mediator I give music lessons on violin and nyckelharpa, so bring your instrument with you!
I do not allow any drugs on my property

Staying at Jantien’s place has been a really great experience for me. Although she says it’s not a “real farm”, in my eyes it is a real homestead and a great example of modern self sufficiency. Jantien is a very kind and happy person, perhaps a little adhd like me but I think that made us get along really well. She even made a little welcome packet to explain how the cabin and her property works! She always made her effort to make sure I’m comfortable. Her son is also nice but a little shy and quiet. The animals are cute and friendly. Especially the fluffy pigs.
Staying with Jantien is a real and raw WWOOFING experience. I loved learning how to use a wood fire stove (which is quite easy). The cabin is so cozy and feels like you’re living off grid (there is electricity and internet) Some may find the outhouse a little offputting, but I think it made it feel like I was a proper homesteader. My work included splitting and stacking wood, which I found very therapeutic. I also helped plant some grass seeds, move the pig enclosure to a new space, and remove vines. It was a mixture of solo work, and working with her. I found the work enjoyable, and my time there well spent. I would gladly come back again in the future.
Also the area is close to Groningen which I highly recommend visiting and it was amazing! It’s a great historical town with a big university so it feels old and modern at the same time. The area is also one of the safest and nicest places I’ve been in Europe.

We stayed at Jantiens place for two weeks and it was a wonderful experience!
Jantien is very welcoming and lovely and we couldn’t be happier.
We stayed in the wooden cabin which was very nice and cozy and there we had a lot of privacy.
The work had a lot of variety and we could organize our day structure independently.
There was a very delicious meal every day and there was fresh food in the morning.
The cats were always around and in cuddle mood which was so cute!
We’re happy to visit again some time :)

We had our second WWOOFING experience at Jantien’s place and couldn't have been happier.
We were warmly welcomed, there was delicious food every day and we had a lot of freedom when it came to organizing our day. At the same time, we had many opportunities to learn new crafts, not only with Jantien's help, but also independently.
The little cabin was very comfortable, we were allowed to use the bathroom in the house and there was a small lounge where we had many good conversations with Jantien.
We will miss the little paradise and the cuddly cats very much and will definitely come back to visit again soon!

Jantien is a very nice and kindfulness woman. Her son and she have very well welcomed me. Moreover, you have your own cabin.
Actually, Jantien likes sharing her (many) knowledges and takes care of people, in addition to her outside job. So she finds tasks in your garden adapted to you.
It was a real great first experiment of Wwoofing, thanks a lot!
