Welkom op het eiland de Gouden Boaiem, wij runnen hier een biodynamisch melkveebedrijf.
Friesland
Goudem Boiaem is a 175-hectare- island where Wwoofers will be able to experience a conservation- area for wild and rare birds as well as learn about biological dairy farming. Since 2013, the family Bokma has been farming on the island and has since then welcomed many guests. The island is home of two farms with about 120 dairy cows, chickens, horses. It is located in a breeding area for meadow birds between the water sports villages Heeg and Woudsend in the region of Soud west Friesland. On the island, you will find dairy cows, of course, and many grassland birds such as black tailed godwit and lapwing. In our operating philosophy, meadow birds and plant- wealth are just as important as our cows, as in nature, one thing is influenced by the other and cannot survive without it. Because of this, you will find the island to be equally well- suited for birds such as redshank and godwit as for our Flechvieh cows. From grazing the herb-rich grasslands, our cows produce a delightful, creamy and organic milk which you will taste during your stay with us. The island "de Gouden gray floor" indeed is a unique natural area, where you will be able to learn a lot and discover new things. Don't forget to bring field glasses. :-)During your stay, you will live in a old farm on the island; electricity, WiFi is provided, you can cook your meals en have your lunch at your own place. You can use the meat and cheese that we have of our own cows.
You can choose what work you will do here. There are always many things to do: feeding the calves, help milking the cows, collecting eggs, cleaning the stables or housekeeping, babysitting if you like! And if you are interested in learning new things about ecological farming or the work on a farm in general, you will have a great time here! For your leisure, we provide bikes you can borrow. Taking a ride to the surrounding villages is recommended. There will be a bike and boat at your disposal so you can be independent and enjoy the lovely surroundings. Smoking and drugs are not allowed.
We only accept request for at least 2 weeks or longer!

I had a very good experience for two weeks. I learned a lot, in terms of milking cows, biological lifestyles, or protection of nature and biodiversity. The farm is located in a large peaceful area, wich is also relaxing.
The Bokma family is very friendly, and answers my questions well. They really seem to be investing in the biological life model which is very constructive
! I highly recommend this farm, and even more for those who want to start their first experience in woofing.

Dear wwoofers,
We've spent a very good week in this farm, with all the big and sympathetic Bokma family! They are really welcoming, helpful and patient. We've learned a lot: how to milk cows, how to provide them the best care/food, etc. They are so involved in what they do and the way they do it! For example, the protection of birds also. With their ecological and organic philosophy, they make the difference, that's impressive. To finnish, the most interesting and original point was to live on an island. Amazing experience!

I had a pleasant stay here and learned a lot about life and work on an ecological dairy- farm. I could ask whatever I wanted (e.g. how the preservation of Meadow birds is carried out here) and my hosts always took time to give me detailed and very informative answers. Coming here turned out to be a great decision!
