What is WWOOF®?

Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) links visitors with organic farmers, promotes an educational and cultural exchange and builds a global community conscious of ecological farming practices.

WWOOF was founded in 1971 and is one of the world’s first educational and cultural exchange programs. Today, WWOOF is in more than 132 countries around the world (and growing).

WWOOF Netherlands is the national organization helping to create local WWOOFing opportunities in the Netherlands and to promote sustainable farming as a lifestyle.

Visitors, or 'WWOOFers', share in daily life with their host and learn about organic agriculture, while spending about half of each day helping out on a farm.

We had a nice experience at the farm. The work is varied, with fruit picking in the summer and the possibility to work indoors weighing and packing the produce. The atmosphere is very friendly, with tea and biscuits during breaks and campfires some evenings. It’s a great place to meet people from everywhere and enjoy the farm experience. The accommodation is quite rustic, so it’s good to come prepared for a simple stay haha But overall we really enjoyed our time there with Willemein and the other volunteers !

Mijn verblijf op de boerderij van Mandy en Johan was heel aangenaam. Bijzonder vriendelijke mensen. Duidelijk dag- en week ritme. Ik ben vooral aan het klussen gegaan omdat daar mijn interesse ligt. Wat ik maakte werd gewaardeerd. De boerderij is nog in opbouw, en de plannen zijn inspirerend. Ik ben heel benieuwd hoe het er in de toekomst uit gaat zien! My stay at the farm of Mandy and Johan was very pleasant. Very nice people and a tight structured day and weekly rhythm. I mainly focussed on handyman work as that is of my interest. What i made was appreciated. The farm is still in development, i am exited how it will work out in the future !

It was my first WWOOF experience, staying with Marc and Jacoba. I was able to come on very short notice and was warmly welcomed. I immediately felt comfortable and at home. I also absolutely loved the children. I was really included in family life, got to eat lots of great food haha, and whenever I needed some time and space for myself, that was never a problem. I also learned a lot of new things and gained experience with different kinds of work. I’m really happy I decided to do it!

Jan and Barbara are extremely hardworking, and if you are willing to put in the work you will have the opportunity to learn everything from the net to the table. It was an eye opening experience. I spent long days working at the restaurant, helped haul in nets when they went fishing, picked and cleaned oysters, worked at the organic markets in Utrecht and Amsterdam where they sold some of their catch and helped filet and pack fish for their online store. I loved working at the organic markets and meeting their customers and learning all the fish names. The accommodation was decent and there is good wifi and you have access to the restaurant and kitchen (unless you are at the market or at sea) to prepare your own meals/snacks and most meals were eaten together. On my time off, I borrowed their bike to bike alongside the water. The work is tiring but fulfilling if you are genuinely curious about sustainable fishing and what it takes to run a diversified operation you will learn a lot. They were upfront about their lifestyle and expectations in our initial communications so I went in expecting to work a lot. I would keep this in mind when applying as this is more work than your average WWOOFing opportunity. It was humbling and inspiring to witness how they live so true to their values. I had some great conversations with Barbara and Jan about their fascinating life paths as well and they really take the time to explain things if you come with curiosity!

It was two weeks of pure happiness—they saved my vacation! A lovely, very patient family. I am infinitely grateful to them! They planned a variety of activities for me and gave me a real taste of Dutch life! You should definitely go! Thanks again to Marc, Jacoba, and their child! I visited Sanne's place in summer with two friends and we had an amazing time! It was the first time wwoofing for all of us and we were a bit unsure of what it would be like but Sanne made us feel so comfortable and at home. The farm feels like a real sanctuary for all the people, animals and plants that are there. The work was varied and interesting, and we learnt so much about sustainable and traditional farming. Sanne was also very generous with the amount of free time we had, and gave us lots of tips for places to visit. The caravan was very comfortable and all the animals are lovely, I would definitely recommend wwoofing here!

An excellently run volunteer farm! With good kitchen, washing and living facilities (outdoorsy and well run); coffee and cookies (and much lemonade and plentiful cake) to look forward to at the break; a friendly, happy atmosphere; and fair work to do. You can choose at the check-in before shifts what kind of job you want to do, like picking berries outside or weighing them inside. There's a gorgeous lake nearby that we swam in nearly everyday. And up the road from that is a little dairy farm where you can get ice-cream made right on site! Wonderful place, Willemien (the owner) is super cool, we'll definitely be coming back :)

Sid and Nella are incredible hosts. From greeting us at the bus station to providing us with bikes upon arrival, we felt very welcomed. We harvested potatoes and apples, made apple juice, weeded the vegetable garden and assisted in the kitchen with dishes during a group stay. We worked from 8am to 5pm each day with an hour break for lunch. The vegetarian meals Nella made were super tasty, especially stuffed zucchini and quiche. Sid is a wealth of knowledge about organic gardening, politics, history, and more. Since he is originally from the US, we had a lot to talk about, and were able to connect over a shared culture. Our room had lovely sunlight in the evening and was near the front of the monastery. We had access to the meditation and yoga room which was a great benefit to our mental and physical health. The monastery is a peaceful place, we highly recommend staying at de Weyst if you have the opportunity!

Wonderful place, fantastic family. We felt at home from the very beginning. The vegetable garden and the cows are very well cared for, and we would definitely love to come back, staying for a longer period next time. We highly recommend it to anyone who loves being immersed in nature, in a healthy and rejuvenating environment, and who is willing to lend a helping hand. See you soon!! Milena and Marco
